Are you part of God’s forever family?

What does it take to make someone a Christian, part of God’s forever family?
Check as many as you think apply:

  • Being born in America
  • Living a good life
  • Giving to others
  • Taking communion
  • Talking about Jesus
  • Thinking positively
  • Going to church
  • Being baptized
  • Believing in God
  • Other

While many on the list are Christian activities, not one of them can make you part of God’s forever family. Surprised?

Supposed I asked a married person, “Are you married?” Would he say, “I think so”? Or suppose I asked an auto mechanic, “Do you work as an auto mechanic?” Would he answer, “I’m not sure”? You’re either married or your not. You either repair cars or you don’t. Likewise, it’s possible for you to be certain you are a Christian.

Here’s how:

First, the Bible teaches you must admit that your sins have separated you from God. Admit to God those things in your life that hurt Him – selflessness, pride, greed, immorality. Acknowledge you’ve been walking in the way of death.

The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death”1 … all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”2 That means all of us have missed God’s mark. We can never work hard enough or be good enough to earn our way into heaven. But we can receive the forgiveness God wants to give us by admitting our sinfulness and helplessness to Him.

Second, you must believe what Christ has done for you on the cross. The Bible says, “Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God.”3 When Jesus died on the cross, He conquered death so each of us may be forgiven. We deserve to be punished for the wrong we have done. But God sent His Son Jesus to receive our punishment in His body.

The final step you must take is to confess Jesus Christ as your Lord. It’s not enough to say, “My father was a fine Christian and I was brought up in a fine Christian home.”

Experience Christ for yourself. All of us who belong to Christ had to come for ourselves. Will you come to Him now and become part of His family?

Pray this prayer: “Heavenly Father, I want to be a real Christian. I realize my sins have separated me from You. Please forgive me. I believe in what Jesus did for me on the cross. I don’t completely understand it, but I accept it by faith. I do want to be a child of Yours. Please come into my life, Lord Jesus, and make me Your child right now. Amen.
